Dog Food & Feeding Amount Calculator
Figure out roughly how many calories — and how many cups — your dog needs each day. Enter your dog's details and the kcal/cup from your own food bag, and the tool shows the full math, not a black-box number.
Look for "kcal/cup" or "ME kcal/cup" near the guaranteed analysis. Leave blank to see daily calories only. Different foods range from ~250 to 500+ kcal/cup, so use your own bag's number.
Enter your dog's weight above to see the recommendation.

How this calculator works
We use the standard veterinary Resting Energy Requirement formula — RER = 70 × weight(kg)0.75 — then multiply by a maintenance factor for your dog's life stage, activity, spay/neuter status, and any special condition to estimate daily calories (MER). Dividing by the kcal/cup from your bag converts that into cups.
The adjustment ranges — intact +10–15%, very active/working +20–40%, senior −10–20%, weight-loss −15–20%, pregnancy +25–50%, nursing +50–100% — follow standard WSAVA / AAHA-style feeding guidance and the same ranges in our own feeding guide. The calorie density always comes from your own food's label — we never assume a brand or invent nutrition data.
This is a starting point, not a prescription. Body condition, breed, and individual metabolism can shift the right amount up or down by 20% or more. Weigh your dog's food, check body condition every few weeks, and adjust. Always consult your veterinarian for puppies, pregnancy/nursing, weight-loss plans, or any medical condition.
